Detailed Itinerary: Premium Vietnam in Depth 15 Days
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City
Good morning, and welcome to Vietnam! You will be greeted and transferred to your hotel when you arrive in Ho Chi Minh City. An essential group meeting will be conducted here at 6 p.m., during which you will meet your fellow passengers as well as the local leader. If you have time, go out and explore the city before you arrive – it’s a bustling center of shopping, historic attractions, and traffic congestion.
After your meeting, take your small group and leader out to dinner. When you step into your restaurant, you’ll be walking into a piece of Vietnamese history: the building was formerly an opium refining station, and vestiges of its past can still be seen today. Your guide would be pleased to provide recommendations for your first foray into this bustling food scene, which includes classic meals and southern Vietnamese favorites.
Day 2: Mekong Delta
Drive south through Ben Tre to the Mekong Delta after breakfast. You’ll hop on a private boat and cruise the delta, stopping at coconut gardens to see a native family and sample tropical fruits and coconut jams. On sampans (small rowing boats), return to the delta’s waterways and row through the coconut trees and stilt residences that line the river. Back on land, take a tuk-tuk tour of the villages to get a feel for rural life and to learn about the coconut industry’s importance in the community. Return to Ho Chi Minh City for the evening after lunch at a neighborhood restaurant.
Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City
Today’s bus and walking tour will allow you to discover Ho Chi Minh City through the eyes of a local. Visit the famous Reunification Palace, the War Remnants Museum, and the majestic Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral to learn the story of the war’s end. Stroll through the city’s lovely streets, appreciating the many French colonial landmarks along the route, including the major post office and the stunning Ho Chi Minh City Hall, which is designed after the Hotel de Ville in Paris. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy; make sure to inquire about supper alternatives with your leader.
Day 4: Dalat
After breakfast, go on a half-day tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, a 200-kilometer underground network of tunnels dug by the Vietnamese and later developed by the Viet Cong. They operated as a military post, a shelter, and a storage facility, as well as housing hospitals, houses, and schools. Your guide will tell you more about the Tet Offensive of 1968 while you explore this fascinating labyrinth. A section of the tunnels has been enlarged to offer visitors a taste of what life must have been like beneath the surface. Please bear in mind that these tunnels will be hot and claustrophobic, so there will be a chance to look out from above. Fly to Dalat later this afternoon.
Day 5: Dalat
Dalat is a natural alpine wonderland in Vietnam’s southern highlands, surrounded by hills, pine trees, lakes, and waterfalls. Because of its temperate climate and abundant rainfall, Dalat, also known as the City of Flowers, is ideal for cultivating vegetables and flowers that cannot be grown anyplace else in Vietnam. Today, you will have the opportunity to learn more about your morning cup and see behind the scenes of speciality coffee production on a tour to a local family-run coffee farm. Follow the journey from seed to cup, from harvest to roasting, and sample some of the expertly crafted finished product for yourself, and you’ll leave with a newfound respect for the humble cup of coffee. After lunch, the group will have the afternoon to themselves. You may visit the historic Bao Dai palace or take a stroll through the busy local markets.
Day 6: Hoi An
Take advantage of a free morning in Dalat to see the Crazy House, a bizarre guesthouse designed by avant-garde architect Hang Nga, who still resides on the premises. In the afternoon, take a short flight to Danang. Take a short private vehicle journey from here to Hoi An, which was once a Cham port town. Take advantage of this opportunity to get some garments created from some unusual local textiles. Hoi An is recognized for its skilled tailors, and some even offer same-day service.
You might also attend a local workshop to learn how to make rice paper. A Vietnamese cooking class is also a great chance to learn about some of the country’s long-standing culinary traditions while simultaneously enjoying the rewards of your labor!
Day 7: Hoi An
This morning, go on a walking tour with your guide to see Hoi An’s stunning architecture and unique blend of influences. With its gorgeous low tiled houses and tranquil ambience, this is a lovely town to walk around. Start with a tour of an ornately decorated historic estate that once belonged to a wealthy trader. Visit the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Chinese Assembly Hall, and a local museum to learn more about the history you learned on your trip. After that, join the rest of the group for a delicious lunch. You have the afternoon free to explore Hoi An and its surrounds. Your guide will be able to suggest extracurricular activities in Hoi An and the surrounding area.
Day 8: Hoi An
Hoi An was as a major port for the Champa Kingdom for centuries, and many Cham descendants still reside there today. Your guide will take you on a tour of My Son Cham this morning, a complex of temples built by Champa Kings in the 4th century. Visit the Thanh Ha Pottery Village in the afternoon, which is one of Vietnam’s oldest pottery villages and dates back to the 16th century. Visit a couple of artists at their home. They used to be the village’s only craftspeople, and they’re both in their 90s. They’ve passed down traditional techniques and practices. Meet the artisan couple’s descendants and discover how traditional objects are made as you continue your village explorations.
Finally, relax with a cup of tea and perhaps test your painting skills on a traditional pottery mask. Return to Hoi An for an evening of relaxation.
Day 9: Hue
Depart Hoi An today for Hue, Vietnam’s old imperial capital and historical center. En route, take the Hai Van Pass, a scenic hilly stretch of highway with views of Lang Co beach. Explore Hue’s unique mix of bustling streets and calm scenery. In the afternoon, the Imperial Citadel, including the Forbidden Purple City, will be visited. The latter was nearly destroyed during the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War, but its humble, foliage-covered ruins endure as a testament to its rich history. Your commander will go over the devastation that transpired throughout the fight.
Today is your flight from Hue to Hanoi. Your flight will most likely leave in the morning, however this is subject to change depending on travel schedules. After you’ve settled in, your guide will take you on a tour of the ancient 36 Streets, which are packed with shops selling everything from souvenirs to gorgeous silk clothes, jewelry, and embroidered tablecloths. You will be treated to a traditional Hat Xam performance in the afternoon, which will be a unique experience. Hat Xam is a Tran Dynasty art form that originated in Northern Vietnam.
Enjoy a half-day guided tour of Hanoi with your guide, learning about the city’s history as you visit the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda, and Ho Chi Minh’s old home. Enjoy a delicious meal at KOTO, a restaurant supported by the Intrepid Foundation that teaches poor youngsters about hospitality. Take advantage of a free afternoon to continue your explorations. The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum is well worth a visit. Walking is a fantastic way to view the city and its many lakes and parks. You’ll notice that this picturesque northern capital is more calm than its southern counterpart, and the West Lake, located north of the main city, is a great place to meet the locals and relax. by its waters.
Today you’ll visit Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is easily one of the most beautiful places on the planet. There’s no better place to take in the beauty of the harbor than from the deck of your Feature Stay hotel for the evening, a junk-style boat. You may sit back and relax as you weave amid stunning limestone islands, karsts, and caverns, with traditional components and modern conveniences. With your guide, visit Surprise Cave to explore its fascinating rock formations before returning to the boat for a great seafood lunch.
Enjoy breakfast on the boat in the morning and perhaps some optional Tai Chi to start the day. Return to Hanoi via the port, unload, and fly. When you get back to the capital, take some time to wander about and visit some of the sights you might have missed the previous time. On Hang Gai Street, you can go shopping or have afternoon tea at the Metropole Hotel. Join your group and guide for a farewell dinner at a Hanoi restaurant, where you’ll exchange stories and reminisce about your tour’s highlights with your newfound friends.
Breakfast brings an end to this morning’s adventure. If you prefer to prolong your stay in Hanoi, we would gladly arrange additional accommodations for you in advance (subject to availability).
