In the far north of Vietnam, the road winds through jaw-dropping canyons and breathtaking mountain passes. For those looking for adventure on the open road, the Ha Giang loop is a dream come true. Pack your belongings, charge your batteries, and prepare to embark on an adventure.
Our Ha Giang Road Trip team will take you through the beautiful mountainous rural of Ha Giang, Tam Son, Yen Minh, Dong Van, and Meo Vac towns to learn about Red Dao culture, Hmong culture, Tay culture, Local Homestay, Hmong King Palace, Lung Cu flag tower on top of Dragon Mountain in Lung Cu village, Vietnam’s northernmost point, Ma Pi Leng pass, and local markets.
We won’t have time for lazy sleep-in mornings because we’ll be on the road at 8 a.m. every day. Possibility of driving yourself or riding pillion (behind a guide/driver). We recommend prior motorcycle experience if self-driving.
One night will be spent in an ethnic minority homestay and one night in a hotel (choice of doing both nights in homestay).

Detailed Itinerary: 3 Days Ha Giang Motorbike Tours
The tour can be completed clockwise or anti-clockwise around the loop, depending on driving abilities, seasons, and market days.
DAY 1: Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Du Gia, approx. 120 km drive
After breakfast, we embark on the ‘Road of Happiness’ and begin driving north out of Ha Giang City. We ascend the Quan Ba mountain pass, enter the Dong Van Geopark, pass the Fairy Hills, and arrive at the Heaven’s Gate. We find our lunch in or near the small town of Tam Son. Following that, we travel deep into the Ha Giang mountains to the picturesque village of Du Gia. We will be staying at the home of an ethnic minority family. We’ll eat dinner and have breakfast with the family. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the day.)
DAY 2: Du Gia – Meo Vac – (Ma Pi Leng) – Dong Van – Lung Cu Dong Van approx. 110 to 150 km drive
We say goodbye to the homestay family and head north, passing through some of the most spectacular mountain passes you’ve ever seen, passing through Meo Vac (where we stop for lunch) and slowly ascending the majestic Ma Pi Leng mountain pass before arriving in Dong Van, Vietnam’s most northern town. If anyone is feeling adventurous, we can climb to the ruins of the French fort for a breathtaking view of the town and its surroundings. Others may enjoy exploring Dong Van’s Old Quarter after a long day on the bike. Stay in the hotel or homestay agreed upon for the tour. Perhaps a Hot Pot for dinner? (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the day.)
DAY 3: Dong Van – Sa Phin – Yen Minh – Tam Son – Ha Giang City, approx 150 km drive
We begin our journey south after breakfast. We soon arrive in Sa Phin, where we find the one-hundred-year-old palace of Vuong Chinh Duc, King of the H’mong people. We descend the Stone Highland to Yen Minh for lunch before climbing a mountain pass that takes us up to Tam Son, over the Quan Ba mountain pass, and back to Ha Giang. (Breakfast and Lunch Included)
